Dialog this morning over the breakfast table, between my two daughters (9 and 7), my wife and I …
-10: Most of the kids in my classroom have cell phones, when I am going to get mine?.
-Wife: Not for now, we don’t want you to be walking around like …like …
-Me: Cell phones make you stupid …
– 7: You have cell phones and look at them all day, therefore you are stupid …
-Me: Could be, but we are in charge …
According to this ITU document (link) 96% of humanity has a cellphone.
In contrast according to this UN Document (link) only 67% has access to a toilet (improved sanitation facilities) and 89% to potable water (improved water sources).
Food for thought, but our species has the wrong priorities.
Today, while I was waiting for the bus, I saw this:
A young woman running to catch a bus, wearing skinny jeans, with a cell phone in her back pocket, and a hot coffee cup.
So, while running, trying not to spill the coffee, the cell phone starts to get out of her pocket, and the tight jeans start to fall down, doing a whale tail.
So, she keeps running for the bus, one hand busy holding the coffee cup, and with the other, pushing the cell phone back into her pocket, and then, pull the jeans up.
At the end, she makes it, she gets to the bus, without spilling the coffee, with the cell phone and the jeans in the right places.
Cellphone manufacturers strive in making their phones thinner and lighter (and more expensive).
Therefore people, for protecting them, buy cases that are thickier and bulkier.
C-est la vie!
